Placement Student

We are open to applications for summer placements at RAS.

The role will involve working on projects relating to safety and  environmental risk management. This includes hazard identification, consequence modelling, risk assessments, research, and other client-led requirements.

Job Description

The work we do covers a wide range of disciplines, so a placement at RAS would be suitable for anyone undertaking a STEM undergraduate degree. This could be any engineering, scientific or mathematical discipline.  The RAS team has a diverse range of academic backgrounds; problem solving, and logical thought processing are the main skills required.

At RAS you will be treated as a valued member of the team from day one. Our placement students carry out the same role as our graduates, which includes technical assistant and junior consultant activities. We are a specialist process and technical safety consultancy and our small team provides expert advice to clients across a range of sectors including energy, speciality chemicals and aviation.

We are flexible on the start and end dates of your summer placement, around your availability but we recommend a placement of at least 12 weeks for you to get the most out of the experience.

 

Key Responsibilities

Activities which fall under the technical assistant aspect of the role include:


  • Extracting data from specialist software packages
  • Proof reading reports
  • Generating GIS maps
  • Research
  • Production of document summaries

Activities which fall under the junior consultant aspect of the role include:


  • Interpretation of data
  • Interpretation of industry legislation, standards, and good practice
  • Graphical representation of results
  • Presentation of findings
  • Technical report writing
  • Scribing at hazard studies and other workshops
